North English- formerly of South English and Webster Robert "Bob" W. Osweiler, was born July 5, 1926, in rural Keokuk County, Iowa, a son of John and Mae (Webb) Osweiler. He was a graduate of Kinross High School. He served in WWII, as a MP. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Lou Bickford, on February 19, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in North English. He enjoyed spending time with family, golfing, crossword puzzles, attending his grandchildren's sporting events and sports especially the Chicago White Sox. Bob died on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, following a long illness, at the age of 83 years. He is survived by his children: Loras (Jane) Osweiler of Conroy, Jeff (Margaret) Osweiler of Webster, Tom Osweiler of Iowa City, Kurt Osweiler of Williamsburg, Becky (David) Hott of Johnston, Scott Osweiler of Pleasant Hill, MO, Mary (James) Gent of Wellman and Colleen (Nathan) Johnston of North Liberty; 16 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; a brother Benny Osweiler of Osceola; 3 sisters: Marjorie Clarahan of Harper, Imogene Steele of Deep River and Donna Daub of Kankakee, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marilyn; a daughter Rhonda Osweiler; 5 brothers: Edward, Paul, Dan, Joe and Mervin; and a sister Marcella Osweiler in infancy. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM on Monday, July 20, 2009, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. Fr. Joseph Roost and Fr. David Wilkening will preside. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 PM on Sunday, with a prayer service at 4pm, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English.
