Williamsburg-Rodney Lee “Postie” Postma was born October 1, 1952, in Sheldon, Iowa. The son of Arie and Rosemary (Pekelder) Postma. He graduated from Sanborn High School. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, friend, whose kindness, strength, and love touched all who knew him. Rodney was first united in marriage to Donna (Schirmer) Alberts in May 12,1975. They made their home in Sanborn, IA where they raised their three children, Dawn, Jason and Cheryl. They later divorced and he married Susan Doornink of Orange City on November 11, 1995. They made their home in Sheldon, IA and raised her three daughters Andrea, Lori and Natalie. Rod drove semi for many different companies until he decided to change jobs to be home more and started working at Demco Mfg in Boyden in the shipping department for many years and was respected for his dedication and work ethic. Rodney was an avid Hawkeye fan, enjoyed gardening, traveling and playing pool. He found great joy in being with and around his kids and grandkids, playing cards and socializing with his friends at the Downer.
Those who knew Rodney will remember him by his nickname (POSTIE) and for his willingness to help anyone, talk to anyone, his smile, and making sure everyone was doing their job right. His impact on the lives of his family and friends will be felt for generations.
Rodney passed away Saturday, May 30, 2026, at his home at the age of 73.
He is survived by his three children: Dawn (Ryan) Burns of Williamsburg, Jason (Amber) Postma of Hartley, IA, and Cheryl (Jared Dhondt) Koele of Parnell; six grandchildren: Dylan (Rio Johnson) Burns, Austin (Kiah Munn) Burns, Chantelle (Caden Lamer) VanDeKamp, Adilynn Postma, Kiley (Eli) Welsh, and Thomas Kunzman; three step-children: Andrea Vollink, Lori (David Ullensvang) Vollink, and Natalie (Trevor) Seibold;t hree step-grandchildren: Olivia Ullensvang, Elliott and Hudson Seibold; three siblings: Mary (Jon Armstrong) Kelley, Alvina (Larry) Reitsma and Denny (Joy) Postma. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Susan and a son-in-law SSG Shane Koele. Rodney will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A Celebration Of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 3,2026 at Sundown Bar and Grill from 5-9pm in Williamsburg, IA. And at a later date in Sheldon IA at the Eagles Club.
