Roger Lee Bartachek, age 80 of Brooklyn, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, January 30, 2018 at Brooklyn Community Estate, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday, February 5, 2018, First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn with Rev. Hans Cornelder officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, February 4, 2018, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
Roger is survived by his wife, Peggy; a son, Robert Lee (Julie) of Brooklyn; three grandchildren, Miranda, Madeline and Axton Bartachek; a brother Gene (Shirley) Bartachek of Brooklyn, and a sister Dolores Nix of Washington State.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Roger Lee was born December 17, 1937 in rural Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of Fred and Mildred Slaymaker Bartachek. He graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1956 and attended AIB College of Business in Des Moines. Roger worked at General Telephone in Grinnell for a short time following college. He and Margaret Marie Shultz were united in marriage on June 6, 1959 at the First Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn. The couple operated the family farm raising grain and livestock.
Besides being a lifelong farmer, Roger was an active member of the Presbyterian Church and the Farm Bureau. He drove school bus for BGM and in later years worked at Manatt’s. He loved to sing, and enjoyed square dancing with Peggy. He was often found working in the garden, or enjoying his grandchildren’s many activities and events.
