Ron attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Hilton Consolidated High School in Conroy.  He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1955.  Ron was united in marriage to Nancy Rae Wise on November 27, 1963, in Brighton, Iowa.  Ron worked for Iowa Electric Light and Power for 32 years retiring in 1991.
