Ronald J. Stonebraker, age 75 of Tipton, formerly of Brooklyn, passed away, Thursday, July 13, 2017, at the Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 18, 2017, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Pastor Joyce Proctor officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, July 17, 2017, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with a Masonic Service at 7 P.M. Memorials may be contributed to the Brooklyn Citizen Scholarship Foundation.
Ron is survived by his sons, Chad (Kayce) of Belgium, WI, and Ryan (Melinda) of Tipton, and five grandchildren, Avrie, Zoie and Kenedie Basye of Belgium, WI, and Zoe and Lea Stonebraker of Tipton. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Lucille Kirkpatrick Stonebraker, and his wife Judy in 2015.
Ronald J. Stonebraker was born October 10, 1941 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Kenneth Alan and Lucille Ada Kirkpatrick Stonebraker. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1960, received his Bachelor degree at Culver Stockton College in 1964, and his Master’s Degree from Northeast Missouri State in 1967. Ronald and Judy Ann Vollbracht were united in marriage on August 20, 1966, at the Immanuel Baptist Church, Quincy, IL.
Ron was a high school Social Sciences teacher at BGM for 35 years, and substitute taught for another 15 years. He was proud to say he had 50 years in the classroom. He sold insurance for MFA/Shelter Insurance, Bear Creek Insurance and Allied. Ron was an adjunct professor at Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, and Iowa Valley Community College in Marshalltown for several years. He and Judy both volunteered at Capital Resources in Brooklyn following their retirement.
Ron was active in his community. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, and also the Tipton United Methodist Church. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #174, and the Brooklyn Kiwanis Club. He served on the Brooklyn City Council for ten plus years. In his free time, Ron was a train buff, and enjoyed anything related to trains and the railroad.
