Rosemary Carmel Detweiler

April 21, 1925 — May 3, 2023

Williamsburg

Williamsburg-Rosemary Carmel Detweiler was born April 21, 1925, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Ursella (Michals) Grusnick. She graduated from Waupun High School. Rosemary was united in marriage to Marion Detweiler on September 27, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Waupun, Wisconsin.  They lived in Wisconsin for 5 years after their marriage before moving to Iowa. Rosemary worked during WWII as a teletype operator assistant. She worked at Amana Refrigeration, the ASCS office and then as a desk clerk at Best Western, Days Inn and Crest Motel for over 29 years.  She enjoyed gardening, birds and playing cards, especially cribbage and Skipbo. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Rosemary died on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Compass Memorial Hospital in Marengo, at the age of 98 years.    

She is survived by 3 sons, Larry (Carolyn) Detweiler of Parnell, Jim (Mary) Detweiler of Williamsburg and Tom (Carrie) Detweiler of Parnell; daughter, Kathy (Allen) Schrock of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren, Shana (Moses) Kargbo, Vanessa (Chris) Vega, and Aleasha (Chris) LeClere, all of Cedar Rapids; Shantell Krabill of Parnell; Stacy (Kyle) Jones of Williamsburg, Tyrel (Margaret) Detweiler of Richwood, Ohio, Jordan (Kate) Detweiler of Williamsburg, Joel Detweiler of Williamsburg, Tiffani Detweiler of West Branch, and Rachel Detweiler of Parnell, twenty one great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Edward James, one brother, George Grusnick, three sisters, Marjorie Rechek, Laverne Hesprich and Virginia Krause.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 AM on Monday, May 8, 2023 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cosgrove. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Holbrook. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. There will be a Prayer Service at 3:00 pm. Memorials may be given to the St. Michael’s Cemetery. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
