Williamsburg-Russell Laverne Herdlicka was born January 25, 1920 on a farm southwest of Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Sylvester and Vera Keil Herdlicka. He graduated from Millersburg High School. Russell was united in marriage to Fern Hebron on February 6, 1943 in Ladora, Iowa. Russell farmed in the Millersburg and Williamsburg area for 27 years and also sold feed for Arbie Feeds. In 1971 the couple moved to Williamsburg. Russell moved ot Highland Ridge Presbyterian Home in Williamsburg in April of 2004. He enjoyed visiting with friends and strangers and driving his horse and buggy around the country side. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church rural North English. Russell died Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a brief illness at the age of 85 years. Survivors include two daughters: Judy (Jim) Rausch of Kokomo, Indiana and Joyce (Greg) Bingham of Antioch, California; five grandchildren: Jennifer Rausch, Robyn Rausch, Sherrie (Aaron) Marlette, Peggy Bingham and Gregory Bingham; two sisters: Norma Rodgers of Millersburg and Marilyn (Ray) Johnson of Tipp City, Ohio and a sister-in-law: Shirley Herdlicka of North English. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Robert and Ronald Gene Herdlicka and a granddaughter Rebecca Ellen Bingham. Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Pastor Edwin Jordan will officiate. Burial will be the Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m. at the funeral home and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
