Ruth VerWaayen was born August 31, 1932 near North English, Iowa the daughter of Ira and Ethel (Glantz) Netser. On March 31, 1970 she was united in marriage to Lorence VerWaayen in North English. They moved to Iowa City in 1979. She has lived at Chatham Oaks in Iowa City since 1995. Ruth enjoyed drawing, bowling, shopping and playing cards. Ruth died on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Iowa City Rehabilitation and Health Care in Iowa City, at the age of 80 years. Ruth is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters - Nona, Gladys, JoAnn, and three brothers - Donald, James and Stanley. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Burial will be in the South English Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until service time on Friday.
