Gene Eash

Samuel Gene Eash, died July 20, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, at the age of 97.

He was born March 11, 1928, in Johnson County, Iowa, to Lavanda (Fisher) and Daniel Glen Eash. He was united in marriage to Ruth Marie Rich on June 1, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Crawfordsville, Iowa. He was a long-time member of the Parkview Church in Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Kate Klopfenstein and Phyllis Gingerich, his wife Ruth Marie Eash and their daughter Mary Lou Barton.

Gene was a lifelong resident of Wellman, Iowa, and worked at Maplecrest Turkey Farms, as well having a long career in the telephone industry, first at the Wellman Co-Op Telephone Association and then at Northwestern Bell and US West.

He is survived by his sons, Glen (Donna) of Durham, North Carolina, and Duane (Jean) of Mount Vernon, Iowa, and 3 grandchildren, Ross Eash, Megan and Sallie Barton.

Gene has donated his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Private family services will be held at a later date.
