Sandra Roth

Sandra (Sandy) L. Roth, 56, of Mt. Pleasant, died peacefully at her home Monday, January 10, 2011. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 15, 2011, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church south of Wayland. The memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 16th at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, with Pastor Nathan Luitjens officiating. A private family burial will be at a later date in Sugar Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to be directed to Great River Hospice, the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church Student Aid Fund or to the Mt. Pleasant High School Math Department. Born October 28, 1954, in Mt. Pleasant, Sandy was the daughter of Robert L. and Irene M. Norris. She was a 1972 graduate of Mt. Pleasant Community High School, and a 1976 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa earning a teaching degree. On June 5, 1976, she married Reynolds Roth in Mt. Pleasant. Teaching was her passion. She retired from teaching in 2009 after serving as a math instructor for 32 years at Mt. Pleasant Community Schools. She also spent time tutoring and continued to do so until her death. For many years she worked part time for the Mt. Pleasant News. She was a member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church where she and her husband taught Sunday school for many years. She was a 38-year member of Original A Chapter of TTT. Sandy and Reynolds volunteered for many years and were avid supporters of the Mt. Pleasant High School Show Choir "In Motion" competitions. She also enjoyed baking and taking long walks with her husband and their dogs. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mikayla (Heath) Stover of Smithville, MO; a son, Aaron Roth of Harrisonburg, VA; her mother, Irene Norris of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one grandson, Sawyer Nash Stover; a sister, Kathryn Prestidge of Appleton, WI; two brothers, Stephen Norris of Pella and Gregory Norris of Brooklyn Park, MN; and three foreign exchange student "daughters", Jana Karwinkel of Germany; Ana Paula Giostri de Andrade, and Suelen Josyane de Souza Teodoro, both of Brazil. She was preceded in death by her father.
