Sarah Miller

Kalona- Sarah Miller was born Thursday, February 16, 1928 in Sherwood, Ohio, the daughter of Jonas and Catherine (Beachy) Yoder.  Sarah was united in marriage to Chester (Chet) A. Miller on February 29, 1948 at Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Sarah passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 95.

Sarah was a faithful member of the Sunnyside Mennonite Church. She was active in Vacation Bible School, taught Sunday School, served several terms as Youth Sponsor with Chester, and served on church committees.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting and baking.  She loved bird watching, mowing her lawn and sporting events (especially her grandchildrens’).

She is survived by two daughters, Muriel Nisly of Kalona and Lois (Richard) Rhodes of Harrisonburg, VA; two daughters-in-law, Sherri (Todd) Miller-Thompson of Iowa City and Ginger Miller of White, GA; a brother Isaac (Ike) Yoder of Bradenton, Fl; 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Chester (Chet) A. Miller, her parents, sons Lowell and Rodney, son-in-law Wendell Nisly, three brothers Ben J., Jonas Jr. And Roman and four sisters Fannie Bontrager, Martha Mullet, Velma Yoder and Esther Delagrange.

A Funeral Service will be on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 1:30 pm at Sunnyside Mennonite Church in Kalona. Burial will follow the service at Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 5-7 pm on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Sunnyside Mennonite Church in Kalona. A memorial fund had been established for Sunnyside Mennonite Church and Hillcrest Academy.
