Homestead- Shirley Mae Teggatz was born May 14, 1938, near Story City, Iowa, daughter of Lewis and Olga (Blomdal) Alsager. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. She graduated from Story City High School in 1956. After graduating, she worked in Story City before moving to Cedar Rapids to work at Iowa Manufacturing. Shirley was united in marriage to Donald Teggatz on September 24, 1960, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. After her children were in school, she worked part-time as a waitress at Seven Villages and The Colony Haus at the Little Amana Exit on I-80. Shirley passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 87 years. Her greatest joy was having her family come home and spending time with them. She enjoyed cooking and baking for them, especially making her chocolate chip cookies- they were the best! She enjoyed her flowers, bird watching, reading her daily devotions, doing puzzles and word searches, baking kringla, and being a farmer’s wife.

She is survived by her four children: Darla Lehmkuhl of Williamsburg, Lowell Teggatz of Oxford, Douglas (Sherry) Teggatz of Rock Island, IL, and Wendy (Craig) Lohmann of Cedar Falls. 10 grandchildren: Christian Lehmkuhl, Jacob (Connor) Lehmkuhl, Anna (Zachary) Campbell, Joshua (Rachel) Teggatz, Erin Teggatz, Ethan (Anastasia) Lohmann, Sarah Lohmann, Caleb (Jenna McCarthy) Lohmann, Natalie Lohmann and Nicholas Lohmann. Six great-grandchildren: Charlotte Lehmkuhl, Reid Lehmkuhl, Lily Teggatz, Simeon Teggatz, Elijah Lohmann, Leo Lohmann, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by: sisters-in-law Nancy Van Dee and Kathy (Bub) Stockman and brother-in-law Ralph (Lois) Teggatz. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, parents Lewis and Olga,father and mother in-laws: Wayne and Olga Teggatz, step-father in-law: Lothar Huedepohl, son-in-law Monte Lehmkuhl, two brothers and their spouses: Lloyd (Darlene) Alsager and Jennings (Adelyn) Alsager; four sisters and their spouses: Delores (Marvin) Erickson, Alice (Eldon) Meyer, Edith (Anthony) Davi and Carole (Dalton) Boren; sister-in-law and spouse: Janice (Gordon) Goldsmith and brother-in-law Ronald Van Dee.

Funeral service will be 10:30 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Service will be livestreamed at youtube.com/@williamsburgimmanuellutheran. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
