Steve Slaubaugh

Steven Douglas Slaubaugh was born December 27, 1967 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Doug and Leslie (Hogendorn) Slaubaugh. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1986, attended Indian Hills Community College and graduated from University of Iowa in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. On May 24, 1992 Steve was united in marriage to Kari Luke at the First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa. Steve lived in the Wellman community all of his life. Steve was the branch manager of US Bank in Washington. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wellman and a member of the Washington Rotary. He served on the Wellman City Council and the YMCA board in Washington. Steve enjoyed golfing, softball, baseball, trivia, playing cards with his friends, coaching and watching his kids in their sporting events. He was a loyal fan of the Oakland Raiders and Iowa Hawkeyes. Steve passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 47 after a courageous battle with Cystic Fibrosis.

Steve is survived by his wife Kari, three children; Ryan, Emma and Aaron Slaubaugh of Wellman, his parents Doug and Leslie Slaubaugh of Wellman, two brothers; Scott (Nicole) Slaubaugh of Wellman, Tom (Kate) Slaubaugh of Kalona, a sister Julie (Chris) Frye of Ankeny, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Carl and Bertilla Hogendorn and Urie and Elsie Slaubaugh.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Parkside Activity Center in Wellman. Rev. David Brownfield Phd, and Rev. Nick Adam will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 to 8:00 pm at the Parkside Activity Center in Wellman. An education memorial fund has been established for Ryan, Emma and Aaron Slaubaugh. The Powell Funeral Home in Wellman is in charge of the arrangements.
