Susan Elizabeth Matrise

Amana-Susan Elizabeth Matrise was born September 17, 1974, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of John A. and Rita (Frye) Lindgren. She graduated from Cedar Rapids Kennedy in 1992. Susan enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Combat Medic. While in the Army, she lived in Texas and Tennessee before returning to Iowa; she then made Amana her home in 2012. Susan was a Lab Technician at the University of Iowa, opened the Blumen Haus in Amana in 2021 and most recently the Loose Moose Café with her fiancé, Joe Parcell. She enjoyed bargain shopping, gardening, playing games, and decorating. Most of all, Susan enjoyed spending time with her family and giving to anyone in need. Susan died on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, after a long courageous battle with cancer, at her home surrounded by family, at the age of 52 years.

She is survived by her six children, Aubrey (Pat) Nunnikhoven of Pella, along with their 3 kids, James, Roy and Violet, Erica Lindgren (Zach) of Amana, along with their 6 kids, Zander, Zyer, Zepler, Zedric, Zigmund and Zeegan, Brennen (Hailey) Lindgren of Homestead along with their 2 kids, Brenley and Hailen, Troy Matrise of Amana, Melanie Matrise (Matthew) of Cedar Rapids, and Greyson Matrise of Amana; her brother John B. (Kimberly) Lindgren of Cedar Rapids; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Amana Area Fellowship, with Rev. Erik Schulte officiating, at the Amana Performing Arts Center in Amana, Iowa. Private family burial will be at the Amana Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Powell Funeral Home in Marengo.
