Theodore Siegel Setzer, age 87, of South Amana, and Prescott, Arizona, died Monday, October 15, 2018 at Colonial Manor of Amana. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 19, 2018, Middle Amana Church, Middle Amana, Iowa, with Elder Emilie Hoppe officiating. Burial will be in the South Amana Iowa Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be directed to the family or to the charity of the donor’s choice, in his name. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, Iowa is assisting with arrangements.
Ted is survived by his wife Evelyn; two sons, Ted (Birlie) of Stamford, Connecticut, and Eric (Alison) of Atlanta, Georgia; He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Roy.
Theodore Siegel Setzer was born June 26, 1931 in South Amana, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Emma Siegel Setzer. He graduated from the Amana High School and attended Iowa State University, earning degrees in Forestry and Agronomy. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 – 55. Ted and Evelyn Sutton were married on September 24, 1955 in Pulaski, Iowa. The couple resided in Amana where Ted worked with the U.S. Forest Service Experiment Station, Amana Forestry and Sawmill, and the Soil Conservation Service for 9 years. After taking a position with the U.S. Forest Service, they moved to Ogden, Utah in 1965, with a position as Research Forester, Forest Survey, at the Intermountain Forest and Range Experiment Station, where they lived for 13 years. Ted also attended classes at Utah State University and Weber State College part-time. They then moved to Anchorage, Alaska where Ted was a Resource Analyst, Forest Survey, Pacific Northwest Forest and Range Experiment Station for 17 years until his retirement in 1995. Ted and Evelyn remained in Anchorage until they moved to Prescott, Arizona in 2004. Ted loved traveling, outdoor activities and was an avid conservationist. The couple regularly attended the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Prescott.
