Tony Evans

Tony was born on July 30, 1961, to Walter and Eunice (Wagamon) Evans. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School with the Class of 1979 before continuing his education at Kirkwood Community College and Coe College, where he earned his teaching and coaching degree.

A lifelong resident of the Wellman area, Tony dedicated much of his career to owning and operating his own body shop. He also worked at Modine Manufacturing, as a quality controller.

Tony had a lifelong passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed trapping, hunting, and fishing, and found great fulfillment in sharing those passions with others. He was an active member of the Iowa Trappers Association, serving as a District Director beginning in 2010. In 2024, he became the Iowa Director for the National Trappers Association, a role he cherished as it allowed him to teach and mentor young people in the traditions, ethics, and skills of responsible outdoor stewardship. He also owned and operated his own fur buyer and trader business in Wellman.

His commitment to serving others extended far beyond the outdoors. Tony proudly served one term on the Wellman City Council and generously volunteered countless hours helping with community events and projects.

Tony also made a lasting impact through coaching middle school athletics at Mid-Prairie Schools. Over the years, he mentored and encouraged countless young athletes, teaching them not only the fundamentals of sports but also the values of hard work, teamwork, perseverance, and respect. The lessons he shared reached far beyond the playing field, leaving a lasting impression on the lives of many students and families.

Above all, Tony treasured time spent with his closest friends and those he cared about. Whether in the woods, on the water, at a ball field, or simply sharing stories and laughter, he will be remembered for his generous spirit, kind heart, and unwavering dedication to others.

Tony's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched as a coach, mentor, outdoorsman, public servant, and friend. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Tony passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2026 in Wellman at the age of 64 years.

He is survived by his nieces, nephews, friends and close friends Brad and Kelly Litwiller, Kristen Litwiller and their children Isabelle, Hayden & Bryn of Wellman. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Sharon Evans-Gase and two brothers Richard and David Evans.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. A general memorial fund has
