Vickie L. Akers

Williamsburg- Vickie Lynn Akers was born June 20, 1953, in Spring Valley, Illinois, the daughter of Charles & Eunice (Rowe) McCauley. She graduated from Princeton High School in Princeton, Illinois, Vickie then continued her education at American Institute of Commerce. In August 1998, Vickie was united in marriage to Danny Lester Akers in Iowa City, they made their home in Williamsburg. She worked as a secretary and office manager for the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Vickie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg and the AFSCME Council 61 at the University of Iowa.

She enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing piano, sewing, and tending to her plants and animals on Farmville. Above all, she loved being with her grandkids. Vickie died on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at her home in Williamsburg at the age of 72 years.She is survived by her husband Danny of Williamsburg; three children Brad (Kristina) Swanson of North Liberty, Amie (William) Jensen of Oviedo, Florida and Alicia Weidner of St. Louis, Missouri; two step children Devon (Kerry) Kaster of Delaware, OH and Danielle (Alex) Leskie of ortonville, MI; five grandchildren; six step grandchildren; her mother Eunice McCauley of Princeton, Illinois; three sisters; and a brother. She was preceded by her father.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am, Monday, July 28, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. A Graveside Service will be 1:00 pm at Memory Gardens in Iowa City. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Sunday, July 27, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Veterans Liberty Center in Iowa City,  Messages may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
