Sigourney

SIGOURNEY - Wanda Greene, age 83, of Sigourney died Saturday, March 2,2024 at the English Valley Care Center in North English.
Wanda was born May 1,1940 in Fort Payne, Alabama, the daughter of JC and Inez (Faulkner) Adams and graduated from Fort Payne High School. On April 19, 1958, she married Jackie Greene in Lafayette, Georgia. The couple lived in Fort Payne until moving to Sigourney in 1965. Wanda worked at Graham's Department Store, Buy Rite, and Casey's as well as working as a CNA and Activities Coordinator at the Keokuk County Health Center. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sigourney. An amateur meteorologist, Wanda was an excellent cook and avid sports fan, especially basketball. She loved following the musical career of her nephew Jeff Cook and the country music group Alabama. Though she adapted well to Iowa, her Alabama upbringing never left her. It could be as obvious as her accent in conversation or as subtle as the way she slipped okra into her summer lunch menu. It was a thousand little things. It was a southern thing and Wanda had it.
Survivors include her husband: Jackie of North English; two daughters: Susan (Tom) House of Lenexa, Kansas and Gina (Jason) Rogers of Marion; two grandchildren: Amanda House of Irvine, California and Adam (Kendra) House of Lenexa, Kansas; one great grandson: Jack Robert House of Lenexa; one sister: Betty Sue Cook of Fort Payne, Alabama; one brother: Bill Adams of Georgia; sister-in-law: Jane Gregory of Sylvania, Alabama; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Norman and Ray Adams and three sisters: Cora Chastain, Allie Rhodes and Wilene Scoggins.
