Williamsburg- Wayne Millard Witte was born October 1, 1934 in rural Williamsburg, the son of Millard and Merwin (Mullnix) Witte. He attended the Lutheran Interparish School in Williamsburg. Wayne worked in the food service industry throughout most of his adult life and enjoyed fishing, driving, and walking nature trails. Wayne proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany where he drove troop transport trucks throughout western Europe. In April 2016 Wayne was honored for his military service by being part of the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight. Wayne passed away Friday July 16, 2021 at Manor Care in Cedar Rapids at the age of 86.
Wayne is survived by four children; daughter Denise Witte-Martin of Urbana, sons Lonny Witte of Lisbon, Kevin (Deb) Witte of Cedar Rapids, and Scott (Molly) Witte of South Amana; grandsons Joshua Martin (Alex), Matthew Witte (Abby), Zachary Witte (Olivia), and Landon Witte; great grandsons Jaden Spencer and Nicholas Witte, a baby boy Witte due in September, and many step grand and great grandchildren; brothers Lloyd Witte (Sandra), Kenneth Witte (Sarah), and Leland Witte (Sherrie); sisters Shirley Siders and Sandra (Donald) Sanders; and a sister in-law Shirley Witte. He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Jamie Lynn Waddilove, brothers Eugene Witte and Loren Witte, and a sister in-law Delores Witte.
A celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am on Monday July 19, 2021 at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial will be at the East York Cemetery near Williamsburg with military rites be the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 of Williamsburg. A general memorial has been established.
