Amana-William “Billy” George Albert was born December 8, 1962, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of William Henry and Boneita (Gerard) Albert. Billy graduated from Amana High School in 1981, Kirkwood Community College in 1983, and the University of Iowa in 1986. He worked at Whirlpool in Amana for 38 years retiring in the fall of 2025. During that time he also was an EMT for Iowa County for 15 years. Billy enjoyed writing and self-published several books, produced short films, and wrote feature film scripts. He loved movies, especially Star Wars and the long running British television series Dr. WHO. He enjoyed caring for his dogs and since retiring volunteering at Safe Haven before passing away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at his home in East Amana at the age of 63 years.
He is survived by his brothers, Dan (Joan) Albert of Walford and Tom (Teresa) Albert of Homestead; niece, Shannon (Becky) Alon of Portland, OR; nephew, Brian Albert of San Francesco, CA; and his dog, Friday. He was preceded in death by his parents and his dogs, Mickey, Gallifrey and Lucky.
A private family graveside service will be held at the East Amana Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Safe Haven of Iowa County. Powell Funeral Home in Marengo is caring for Billy and his family. Messages may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com
