Woodrow Franklin Lee was born on March 15, 1918 in South English, IA, the son of Benjamin David and Myrtle Swank May Lee. He grew up in the South English and Kinross communities, graduating from Kinross High School in 1936. Woodrow was in the Army during World War II, achieving the rank of sergeant. He served in the Pacific Theatre with the 160th Infantry, 40th Division. Woodrow was united in marriage to Maxine Margaret Seitsinger on February 12, 1949, at the Kinross Christian Church. He farmed in the Webster area, retiring in 1983 after 50 years. Woodrow served on the Webster United Methodist Church board, as a trustee and finance director. He was a lifetime member of the Keota VFW, a charter member of the Keokuk County Isaac Walton League, a member of the Conservation Service, served as a Keokuk County 4-H leader and worked with the Boy Scouts of America.. Woodrow died following a short illness on Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. He lived 86 years, 5 months and 24 days. He is survived by his wife Maxine of Webster, IA; two sons: Kenneth Lee of Vinton, IA; Rick Lee of Sigourney, IA; 3 grandchildren: Jessica, Elizabeth & Jaclyn; sisters: Anna Frits of Iowa City, IA; Grace Sondag of Webster, IA; brothers Harold Lee of Webster, IA; and Roscoe Lee of Webster, IA. Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents, a son Dennis R. Lee and brother Francis Lee. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, September 13, 2004, at the Webster United Methodist Church, Webster, IA, with Pastor Dick Smith officiating. Visitation will be at the Powell Funeral Home in North English on Sunday, Sept. 12th from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the South English Cemetery.
