KEOTA-Thomas B. Mills, age 98, of Keota, died Monday, November 4, 2019, at the Washington County Hospital.
Tom was born December 31, 1920, in Bushnell, Illinois, to Tom and Alice (Bayliss) Mills. When Tom was six the family moved to North Dakota until 1930, when they moved to Keota. He graduated from Keota High School then served in the Air Force during World War II. On August 24, 1952, he married Shirley May Duncan at St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota. Tom worked at Farmers Savings Bank for over 50 years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed banking, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife: Shirley of Keota; two children: Debra Mills-Stigers and husband Dan of Washington and Steven Mills and friend Kim Gatliff of Minneapolis, Minnesota; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Michael and Robert Mills; two daughters: Sherri and Angela Mills and two brothers: John (Jack) and James Mills.
Private family and military services will be held and burial will be at a later date at Keota Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established for Keota QRS or Keota Fire Department. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Tom and his family. Letters of consolation may be made to Tom's widow, Shirley Mills and family and tributes sent to P.O. Box 123, Keota, IA 52248 and she will present them to Keota QRS and Keota Fire Department. So sorry to hear of Uncle Tom's passing. Enjoyed driving from Iowa City to Keota to visit Uncle Tom, Aunt Shirley and cousins. When I think of Uncle Tom I remember his pipe and how great that smelled. What an awesome picture of his pilot picture! Thanks for sharing that and the tribute of his life and family. Tom was one of those outstanding persons that had a smile and hello to everyone. I was blessed to have known him as a person and a friend.

Tom was always a fixture at FSB my entire life until he retired. Always had something nice or funny to say when I came into the bank to see Dad and Charlie. He was a kind and true gentleman. My deepest condolences to the entire family.
