Born, January 26, 1948, Dennis was the son of Alfred and Virginia (Peterson) Nellor. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1966 and from the University of Iowa in 1971 with a degree in Business and Finance. Dennis was united in marriage to Kathy Walters on May 29, 1971 in Danville, Iowa.
They made their home in the Mt. Pleasant community, where Dennis worked as the business manager for the Prison and Mental Health, retiring in 2002.
Dennis was a man of few words but people soon learned that when he did talk, they would do well to listen. Some called him the original Google as he always had an answer, could find the answer and in rare cases - some believe he made up an answer.
He loved his family fiercely and that love was freely returned. Dennis shared his love of hunting, fishing, 4 wheeling and boating with his girls and they enjoyed many hours together sharing that love. For over 20 years the family enjoyed time together on their houseboat, the Lil' Nell, on the Mississippi.
For over 20 years Dennis was the primary organizer of the Nellor-Shivers annual week long family reunions of up to 27 family members. Enjoying natures beauty, from the Outer Banks, Fish Creek Montana, Door County Wisconsin, Land Between the Lakes and many places in between.
Dennis and Kathy were snowbirds for the past 8 years enjoying Alabama, Florida, Arizona and most recently Mission, Texas. They loved glamping and the many wonderful friends they made along the way.
Dennis' grit was bottomless. Starting with a catastrophic motorcycle accident 50 years ago and ending with over 6 months battling his brain tumor. Dennis trudged on through these and many other health issues.
His greatest joy in life, by far, was the depth of his love and pride for his girls, family and more recently the joy of spending time with his grandson, Garrett.
Survivors include his wife Kathy of Mt. Pleasant, two daughters Natalie (Justin) Burgus and Rachel (Duane) Bebb, both of Mt. Pleasant; one grandson, Garrett Burgus; sister, Debora (Eric) Edmonds of Los Angeles, CA and their children Alex and Chelsea, sister, Dorene (Roy) Jennings of Austin, TX; special niece and nephew Jenny Talley of Burlington and Rob Nichols of Mt. Pleasant; his father Alfred Nellor of Mt. Pleasant and mother-in-law Elaine Walters of Mt. Pleasant.Dennis was preceded in death by his mother Ginny and father-in-law Charles Walters.
