Lois M. Holtgrewe

Lois Holtgrewe, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020, at Savannah Heights Nursing Home in Mt. Pleasant.

Born, June 25, 1933, in Remsen, IA, the daughter of Aloysius and Emma (Solwolke) Nothem. She graduated from Remsen High School. On June 30, 1952, Lois was united in marriage to Barry Holtgrewe in Elk Point, SD. She was a homemaker and devoted mother to her four sons.

They lived in Mt. Pleasant from 1970-1975, then moved to northwest Iowa, living many years in Spirit Lake. They returned to Mt. Pleasant in 2013. Lois was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. She was Sunday School Superintendent, and taught Sunday School for many years in Storm Lake, IA. She volunteered many hours at the Spirit Lake Hospital. She was a very gracious lady, and her family was very important to her. She enjoyed decorating and painting.

Survivors include her husband Barry of Mt. Pleasant; 3 sons, David (Karen) Holtgrewe of Lawrenceville, GA, Kim (Jean) Holtgrewe of Mt Pleasant, Jeff (Betsy) Holtgrewe of Cherry Hills Village, CO; a daughter-in-law Linda Holtgrewe Tomes of St. Charles, IA; 10 grandchildren: Hilary (Jason) Prall, Ashley (Ryan) Hall, Amy (Johnnie) Willis, Michael Holtgrewe, Jason (Kelsey) Holtgrewe, Jared (Stacy) Holtgrewe, Catherine (Chris) Murray, Jenny (Phillip) York, David (Sarah) Holtgrewe, Mary Holtgrewe; 10 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, LaVon Engel of Longmont, CO, Gerry (Geraldine) Schumacher of Lafayette, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step father Ernest J. Schumacher, a son Brad, a great granddaughter Harlyn Dusty Holtgrewe, a sister Margie Hallett, and a brother Al Nothem.

According to her wishes, her body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Remsen Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established for the Alzheimer's Association and the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake.
